Lilies arrive with a bang

Lilies tend to start blooming right around the July 4th holiday, perfect timing for a focal flower reminiscent of a bursting firework. These showy darlings are renowned for their stunning and distinctive appearance, producing large, trumpet-shaped flowers. Each flower typically has six petals, which often curve gracefully backward, as well as long, lance-shaped leaves.

If you're looking for a fresh shape to mix up your designs after all the floofs and poofs of peony season, it might be time to give lilies a chance!

Lilies come in a wide range of colors, including shades of white, yellow, orange, blush, salmon, pink, coral, and burgundy. Some also feature bi-colored or speckled patterns in both delicate pastels and vibrant hues.

Many lily varieties are known for their fragrance, which can range from subtle and sweet to intensely perfumed.

On a typical year, lilies begin blooming in July, but early lilies can be seen in June! We should see them blooming throughout July and August.

There are various types of lilies, each offering a distinct flower shape, size, and fragrance profile.

Lilies seem to be a divisive flower, but if you're into them, you've got to check out the locals! They're another flower that is tricky to ship with those delicate petals and multiple blooms per stem — they just don't take well to being packed into a box.

The stems that are shipped have to be cut early to make sure they stay tightly closed throughout the process, whereas locally-grown lilies can be cut when they're ready to pop, which means you won't be waiting around for days and trying to pry those petals apart to have them open in time for your event.
